Online training is now available to City of Fort Dodge employees 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! 

Training is provided through the Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP) Online Resource Library. The City of Fort Dodge is a member of this pool. Iowa Municipal Worker's Compensation Association (IMWCA), the City's worker's compensation carrier for most departments, also offers several training opportunities through their Online University.

City supervisors and employees must first register with a username and password.  Once you are registered you may log-in any time of the day or night to access a wide variety of online training courses. More information will be emailed to employees soon!

Some of the online courses available are:

  • Customer Service: Difficult Customer Alert
  • Harassment in the Public Sector
  • OSHA
  • Back Safety: Lift Well, Live Well
  • Defensive Driving
  • Discrimination & Legal Issues
  • Recognizing Drug and Alcohol Abuse
  • Understanding the ADA and FMLA
  • Performance Management
  • Investigating Incidents

A timeline to complete specific courses, based on your position with the City, will be provided to you on a quarterly basis.  Upon successful completion of a course you will receive a certificate.  This certificate should then be emailed to fdhr@fortdodgeiowa.org by the course due date and will be kept in our personnel training files.    

The City of Fort Dodge values our supervisors and employees and believes the notion of continuous improvement applies to more than just processes.  Continuous improvement happens within people!   It happens when they are provided with opportunities to gain knowledge, develop skills, and enhance their abilities.  In addition to the online training courses classroom training may also be provided.
