We are happy to welcome you to Fort Dodge and look forward to helping you get settled in your new community!
All properties require a signed water service application. Deposits for rental properties are required. For your convenience, downloadable forms are available here. These documents and any required deposits must be returned to the Utility Billing office, located on the first floor of the Municipal Building, 819 1st Avenue South, Fort Dodge, Iowa. You can return the forms via email (waterdept@fortdodgeiowa.org), by mail to the address above or by placing them in the drop box conveniently located in the rear of City Hall in the alleyway.
- By automatic bank deduction - complete the ACH form and return it to the Utility Billing office to have your payment deducted from your account automatically each month.
- By cash, check, money order and credit/debit cards* at the Utility Billing office.
- By check or money order mailed to City of Fort Dodge, 819 1st Avenue South, Fort Dodge, Iowa 50501
- Online bill pay*
*Effective November 1, 2022, customers who pay in person or online using a credit or debit card will be subject to a surcharge equal to $1.50 plus 2.35% of the total amount paid. Customers who pay online using a bank account will be subject to a $1.50 surcharge. To avoid any surcharges and late fees, we encourage utility customers to sign up for ACH payments.
For your convenience, the City of Fort Dodge has two after-hour drop boxes for utility payments:
- Drop slot in the alleyway directly behind City Hall, 819 1st Avenue South, Fort Dodge
- Dropbox by the customer service counter at Hy-Vee Food Store, located at the corner of 1st Avenue South and South 29th Street, Fort Dodge Please only deposit checks or money orders in the after-hour drop boxes.
Payment Due Dates
Utility accounts that begin with a "1" are cycle one accounts and are due on the 5th of each month. Utility accounts that begin with a "2" are cycle two accounts and are due on the 20th of each month. The account number can be located on your utility bill.

All dogs, cats, and ferrets over the age of four months shall be licensed with the City of Fort Dodge. This requirement does not apply to nonresident owners keeping a dog, cat or ferret within the city for less than thirty days in twelve consecutive months. |
